What we collect when you use The Dogs Before, why, who helps us, and how long we keep it.
1Who is responsible
Rhombicosidodecahedron LLC, 1207 Delaware Ave #2715, Wilmington, DE 19806, United States, is responsible for the personal data described here. Write to hello@thedogsbefore.com with any question or request.
Paddle.com, our reseller and merchant of record, is separately responsible for the data it collects when you pay (see below).
2What we collect
- Your pedigree file. Besides the dogs, a pedigree can show the names and addresses of breeders and owners.
- Your email address, when you buy the family research, for the receipt and the link to your family page.
- Payment details, collected by Paddle. We never see your card number. Paddle tells us the order, the amount and the email you paid with.
- Your request to start the research at once, with the time and the version of the terms you accepted.
- Technical data: your IP address, used to limit free checks and keep the service safe.
3What happens to your file
- Your pedigree file is sent to OpenAI so that the names and relationships on it can be read. We ask OpenAI not to store it, and it is not used to train OpenAI's models.
- The dogs' registered names are sent to a web search provider to see what is published about them.
- Nothing about you is asked for or shown. The result is on a private page only you have the link to.
- The check is free. It looks at search results only, so it can miss dogs that are published under a different spelling.
The family research goes on from the dogs' names: it searches for them and reads the public pages it finds. People's names from your pedigree are not shown on the family page.
4Why, and on what basis
- To carry out the free check and the research you asked for (performing our contract with you).
- To keep order and payment records (a legal obligation).
- To prevent abuse and keep the service running (our legitimate interest).
5Who helps us
These providers process data on our behalf, under contract, and only for the work we give them:
- OpenAI reads the pedigree and the pages found about the dogs. We ask OpenAI not to store what we send, and OpenAI does not use data sent through its API to train its models. It may keep a request for up to 30 days to check for abuse, and then deletes it.
- A web search provider receives the dogs' registered names, never your file or anything about you.
- Our hosting provider runs the site and stores the files.
- An email provider sends the email with the link to your family page.
Write to hello@thedogsbefore.com and we will tell you which companies these are.
Paddle.com (Paddle.com Market Ltd, United Kingdom, and its group companies) sells the research to you as merchant of record. It collects your payment details, country and email for the payment, the receipt, tax and fraud checks, as an independent controller under its own privacy notice.
We are a company in the United States, and some of these providers are too. Transfers of data from the EU and the UK to them are covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
6How long we keep it
- A free check that is not bought, with its pedigree file and your IP address: deleted after 30 days.
- Your family page, its pedigree file and its files: for as long as you want it; ask us and we delete it.
- Order records (email, amount, date): as long as accounting and tax law require, even after the page is deleted. Paddle keeps its own payment records.
7Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its use, and to receive it in a portable form. Write to hello@thedogsbefore.com. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
